The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea) is a centralist state that conducts its affairs on the basis of "Juche", a constitutionally enshrined ideology characterised by the goals of independence and self-reliance. The deceased leader Kim II-sung, formulated the ideology of "Juche", and its principles continue to guide the DPRK government, now led by Kim Jong-il.

Location

Eastern Asia. North Korea is located in the northern part of the Korea peninsula, with the sea of Japan to the east and the yellow Sea to the west. South Korea is to the south roughly below the 38th Parallel and China to the north-west. There is a short border with republics of former Soviet Union to the north-east.
