ESTONIA

Located in Eastern Europe, Estonia borders both the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland, between Latvia and Russia. It covers an area slightly smaller than New Hampshire and Vermont combined and includes around 1,520 islands located in the Baltic Sea. Estonia s marshy terrain and lowlands experience a wet and maritime climate which gives the country both moderate winters and cool summers. Natural resources include shale oil, peat, phosphorite, amber and Cambrian blue clay.

Location

The Republic is bounded in the west and north by the Baltic Sea, the Gulfs of Riga and Finland in south-west and north, east by Russia and south by Latvia. It is a mainly lowland country with numerous lakes.

The mainland terrain is flat, boggy, and partly wooded; offshore lie more than 1,500 islands.
