Austria is a landlocked country in central Europe. It borders Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. Its capital city is Vienna.
Austria is located in Central Europe. Germany is to its north-west, Czech and Solvak Federative Republic to its north east, Hungary to its east, Yugoslavia and Italy to its south and Switzerland. Austria is a landlocked country but has access to the sea via the Danube river.
Austria may be divided into three unequal geographical areas. The largest part of Austria (62%) is occupied by the relatively young mountains of the Alps, but in the east, these give way to a part of the Pannonian plain, and north of the River Danube lies the Bohmerwald, an older, but lower, granite mountain range.
